Our Sustainability Journey

We believe business should create value today without costing tomorrow.

What a sustainable business means to us

Sustainability is becoming more deeply embedded in how we run our business at Indicium Dynamics. We believe that better data leads to better decisions, and our technology helps businesses and communities manage water, energy, fire risks, and natural resources more responsibly. But we’re not perfect. Like any growing business, we’re navigating growth and expansion in a way that aligns with our social and environmental values. We’re constantly looking for ways to improve—both in how we operate and in the impact we create. This page is our way of holding ourselves accountable—celebrating our wins, sharing our progress, and being transparent about where we still have work to do. It’s a journey, and we’re excited to invite you along for the ride.

Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a global framework for tackling the world’s most pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges. At Indicium Dynamics, our work aligns closely with several SDGs by enabling better environmental monitoring and data-driven decision-making.

Our People

28.6%

of our team identify as female

We recognise the importance of diversity and are committed to fostering a more inclusive and balanced workplace.

Diversity goals

As we grow, we are committed to supporting and increasing workforce diversity.  We will do this by:

  • Inclusive hiring practices - we already use a blind recruitment approach and focus on candidate skills more than their education

  • Using inclusive language in job advertisements - we already review our job advertisements to remove gender bias from job advertisements

  • Workplace flexibility - to foster work/life balance and allow for caring responsibilities

100%

of our team are proud to work at Indicium

Our team also scored Indicium above 80% on the following workplace elements:

  • They enjoy working at Indicium

  • They feel respected and part of a team

  • They can maintain a healthy work/life balance

  • The workload is reasonable

  • They feel confidence in the leaders of Indicium

  • They feel included in decision-making processes

We will continue to monitor employee engagement with annual engagement surveys.

Workforce goals

The employee survey highlighted some areas for our staff that Indicium leadership would like to improve:

  • Opportunities to develop additional skills

  • Opportunity to engage with self-development opportunities

Taking this on board, we are engaging with our team to learn more about what opportunities for continuing education and skill development they would like to access. The goal is to enable each employee to achieve a skill or self-development outcome over the course of 2025.

Our living wage commitment

At Indicium Dynamics, we believe that fair pay is fundamental to a thriving workplace. That’s why we are committed to ensuring that all our employees receive a living wage—one that reflects the true cost of living and supports a decent quality of life. This means going beyond the legal minimum wage to provide fair compensation that covers essential needs like housing, food, healthcare, and well-being.

We recognise that our people are at the heart of what we do, and we’re dedicated to creating a workplace where they feel valued, supported, and secure in their future.

Workplace Wellness goals

To us, wellness at work incorporates a range of different elements - including physical health, mental health, social health, financial health, career health, and connection with our community.

We are currently working on a wellness plan that will recognise the needs of our employees across these categories and will result in Indicium's first Wellness Plan for the year 2025. After the collection of baseline data and consultation with our team, a range of initiatives will be developed to foster wellness. We will be able to resurvey our team next year to compare the impact of these initiatives.

Water Monitoring Technologies

Our Environment

87.9%

of our office waste has been diverted from landfill*

number is current as of the 12/2/2025

Since installing our waste monitoring system in July 2024, our cumulative totals per waste stream are:

10.5kg

Landfill

10.5kg

Recycling

10kg

Tricky Recyclables via RecycleSmart (soft plastic, stationery etc)

39kg

Compost - taken home and added to staff compost systems

To help us monitor our waste output, we invested in MethodInsight Bins - they give us our waste data in real-time. You can't change what you don't measure right!?

83 tCO2-e

Our emissions total 83 tCOâ‚‚e, roughly equivalent to the annual carbon footprint of 10 Australian households

Indicium Dynamics Carbon Emissions 2023-2024

We track our emissions using Sumday's Carbon Accounting Software!

*figures represent metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCOâ‚‚e) for the 2023-24 financial year

Environmental footprint goals

While the majority of our emissions are generated from our supply chain, there are still some things that we can work on internally:

  • reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill by 10%

  • investigating the use of a carbon credit scheme to offset our emissions

Client feedback goals

Currently, we're great at collecting anecdotal evidence from our clients about the positive impact that our solutions generate for their environmental projects. A key goal for us will be to develop mechanisms to more formally measure the quantifiable impact of our projects on environmental variables including:

  • Land protected

  • Species monitored

  • Energy efficiencies gained

  • Water saved

  • Safety alerts triggered

Indicium Dynamics Community Focus

Our Community

4 interns

from the University of Tasmania have been placed with us since 2018

Graduating without work experience can be hard. At Indicium, we're proud to work with UTas to provide internship placements for students in their final years of study. So far we've welcomed students from:

  • The Tasmanian School of Business and Economics

  • The School of Information and Communication Technology

  • We're working with the Sustainability Integration Program for Students (SIPS) to offer placements in the second half of 2025

Local first

Where possible, we try to source our solution hardware, consulting and office supplies from local businesses in Tasmania

This is important to us as it strengthens our local economy, supports small businesses, and reduces our environmental footprint. By keeping our supply chain close to home, we help create jobs, build strong business relationships, and minimize the emissions associated with long-distance shipping.

We also prioritise supporting businesses with a business model that seeks to give back to the communities in which they operate (e.g. Social Enterprises). â€‹

Internship goals

We enjoy mentoring graduating students within the technology, marketing and sustainability fields and look forward to continuing our partnership with the University of Tasmania to provide an enjoyable work-integrated learning experience for students.

Procurement goals

As a business, it is not always possible to access what we need for our technology solutions locally, and often we need to look overseas for cost-effective hardware solutions.

In these instances, it is our goal to source from organisations that align with our social and environmental values, and who are working to improve their impact upon our planet.

Strengthening connection with community goals

We believe in giving back to the community and are currently working internally to identify the most meaningful ways to contribute—aligning our efforts with our team’s values and the initiatives they are passionate about supporting. Watch this space!

Collaboration

No single organisation has all the answers—especially when tackling complex environmental and technological challenges. This is why we're such big believers in the power of collaboration. We are striving to develop meaningful connections with research institutions, industry leaders and government partners, because we believe that by combining expertise and sharing knowledge, we can create more impactful solutions.

The below collaboration map shows the breadth of organisations that we work with to further our internal and client-focused sustainability objectives.  Our partnerships help bridge the gap between research and real-world application, ensuring that cutting-edge technology translates into practical, effective outcomes. Working closely with a diverse network also allows us to stay agile, continuously improve our solutions, and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future. Through collaboration, we’re not just developing technology—we’re driving meaningful change.
